Your role
JBA is looking to enlarge its current product range by streamlining existing and developing new solutions as well as engage more profoundly with potential collaborators and clients to expand the offering in support of parametric insurance and other forms of alternative risk transfer solutions. The main tasks of this role are likely to include:
- Assessing the market opportunities and competitors’ offerings
- Analysing JBA’s strengths and weaknesses in relation to the market and identifying opportunities to build new revenue streams
- Contributing to the further development of JBA’s strategy for parametric services
- Developing an expanded and streamlined parametric insurance product generation workflow
- Engaging with collaborators and clients and building relationships with prospective clients
- Presenting JBA’s work at industry events and conferences
- Supporting the bid work of the team in relation to all our services
You will work with others in the team to review and expand our strategy for parametric services and engage with collaborators and clients to understand their requirements, present JBA’s offering and implement contracts. You will contribute to planning future developments and how they fit with company objectives.
You will be involved in developing bespoke offerings for clients, working with JBA’s developers to scope, cost and schedule technical work.
You will help to promote JBA’s disaster risk finance offerings through presentations to clients and at industry events, working with our Marketing team where appropriate. Your work will help clients to understand how our approaches can support their decision making.
Day to day you are likely to be involved in multiple projects, addressing clients’ challenges with innovative solutions delivered to client deadlines.
The team member we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with a knowledge of parametric insurance and disaster risk finance, ideally with a knowledge of the re/insurance industry and the wider international development and humanitarian sectors.
Solid technical knowledge will be required, particular in relation to the design and applications of alternative risk transfer solutions in different contexts. In addition, the role requires skills in strategic planning, problem solving, communication, client engagement, networking and relationship building. The successful candidate will be capable of managing multiple and competing priorities.
To fit the nature of work within the team, the role would be ideal for someone who likes a challenge, picks up new skills quickly, thinks innovatively and is enthusiastic, organised, work well with colleagues and is also comfortable working on their own initiative.
Qualifications
A postgraduate degree in a related discipline, or equivalent experience in the parametric insurance space
Essential attributes for the role
- Knowledge of catastrophe modelling and its application
- A professional manner with strong interpersonal skills, comfortable to interact with more experienced colleagues and clients
- Experience of teamwork/collaborative environments both in person and via collaboration technologies
- Demonstrable ability to understand and communicate technical concepts verbally and in writing
- Experience in a range of relevant technologies
- Be organised and effective at prioritising multiple tasks
Desirable attributes for the role
- Prior experience of modelling natural hazards
- Coding experience, e.g. Python, R, SQL

JBA supports hybrid working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work.
If office-based, the role will be located in our modern, eco-friendly offices at Broughton Park, near Skipton, North Yorkshire. Our team has adopted a hybrid working approach with some requirement to work both from home and in the office. We supply basic equipment to support this. You will need to be in the Skipton office a minimum of 2 days a week.
